Thank You, Chelsea

The first dog is the dog who gives you so much that the first dog is often the reason for the second dog.

The Truth

I’ll have to start my first blog post with some truth. I have not always been a good pet mom. If you know me well, you know my history with pets has some flaws. When I was younger, I had some pets in my life that I ended up having to find new homes for.

Years past, I got married, and discovered that my plans for having children were not God’s plans. So guess what we did? Yep, we got a puppy! Actually, I should say I got a puppy. My husband was along for the ride but not as enthusiastic as I was. To get him on board, I entertained his name suggestions and we settled on Chelsea after the English Football Club. To his credit he did come to love her and cared for her deeply. This became problematic when our marriage ended, but there was no question that Chelsea was mine.

What Did Chelsea Teach Me?

Chelsea taught me about responsibility, dedication, compassion, joy, and mostly LOVE. She was such a gentle, sweet soul, with a bit of a feisty side, which I loved and saw more of in her senior years. She was with me during my divorce and the death of both of my parents. She endured six moves in an eight year span, but got to enjoy her last eight years in the same home. She reluctantly helped me welcome two furry family members later in her life. No matter the disruptions that came her way, Chelsea’s love and devotion never waned. Due to a decline in her health, I had to sadly say goodbye to my sweet girl last July, just 2 months shy of her 17th birthday. She was my rock, my first puppy love. I am the dog mom I am today because of her. I would not have my other three dogs if it wasn’t for the love and dedication of my sweet Chelsea. Thank you my precious angel.

The Business, Skylar Blue

So I’ve come along way since my younger years. Owning a pet is a true gift, and no one is more aware of this than me. I can’t imagine my life without a dog or two or three, ha ha! Hence the start of my new business, Skylar Blue, named after one of my pups. I find great joy in creating gifts for pets and their parents. I hope you follow along on this new journey of mine to provide thoughtful gifts and worthwhile content that will keep you coming back.
